Governance
We are a trustee-led charitable foundation established to support purposeful work that helps people and communities flourish over time.
Arbor Vitae Foundation is a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) established to support education, the arts and health for the public benefit.
The Foundation is governed by a board of trustees who are responsible for setting its strategic direction, safeguarding its assets and ensuring that all activities further its charitable objects and deliver clear public benefit.
The trustees are supported, where appropriate, by professional advisers to ensure that the Foundation operates in a responsible, compliant and well-governed manner. The board keeps its governance arrangements under regular review and is committed to maintaining appropriate oversight as the Foundation’s activities develop.
The trustees collectively manage the affairs of the Foundation and exercise all powers necessary to further its charitable purposes, in accordance with its constitution and applicable charity law.
All grant-making decisions are taken collectively by the trustees, guided by the Foundation’s grant-making policy. Trustees are required to act solely in the interests of the charity and to manage conflicts of interest in line with Charity Commission guidance.
The Foundation operates as a grant-making charity and does not deliver services directly.
Policies
We are committed to working responsibly, fairly and transparently.
Our work is guided by a clear framework of policies covering governance, grant-making, financial stewardship, risk management and compliance.
Some of these documents are published on this website because they are directly relevant to applicants, grant holders, partners and members of the public. These include our grant-making process, eligibility guidance, privacy policy and complaints policy.
We also maintain a wider set of internal governance and operational policies to support good decision-making by our trustees. These include policies on conflicts of interest, financial controls, delegation, risk management, trustee conduct, safeguarding, investment, acceptance of donations and monitoring of grants.
Where appropriate, copies of relevant policies may be made available on request. Please contact us at:
